Easter MessageAs we approach Easter, you will see that the church is providing opportunities for people to draw closer to God during the course of the principle Christian festival. At Christ Church this year we have two additional things to celebrate. One is our participation in the Passion Play and March of Witness. On Good Friday our Youth Leader, Peter Ambler will take the part of Christ in the Passion Play. He will be captured in the Garden of Gethsemane then marched to the Buttermarket where we will hold his trial and then in the Abbey Gardens there will be a moving spectacle as we re-enact both the crucifixion and his entombment. If you come to Christ Church in the next few weeks, you will also see a new addition to our artwork. Christ Church, Moreton Hall has many items of modern art. The newest of which is an oil painting by a leading Russian artist of a famous Russian monastery in springtime. This work has already prompted considerable interest and we do hope that you take the opportunity over the Easter period of seeing it. On Easter Sunday many thoughts spring to mind. One is the participation in an event, which has gone on for 2,000 years and at the same time almost 2/3 of the world population will be celebrating together in the hope of their faith. The second thing of course is it is good to remember that the Christian God is one who enters into suffering and is therefore able to forgive and the third thing is because Jesus has risen from the dead, the Christians believe that one day they will rise from death and go to heaven to be with their Lord. It is good to know that even today over 70% of the population of Britain believe this message and most of them will take the opportunity to celebrate with others at this Eastertide. It is a time of joy, a time of celebration, a time of deep thought and reflection and above all, a time to recommit yourself and find again the love of the forgiving God. With every good wish this Eastertide. Jonathan Ford Jonathan Ford's blog | Posted at 22 Mar 2006 - 21:42
