House Buyers and Rougham Airfield Concerts

Good news for house buyers on Moreton Hall

In the past we have warned readers that some house sale professionals require people to insure against repairing Christ Church Moreton Hall when they don’t have to. Since then, the leading Moreton Hall estate agent 2B have contacted us to assure us that they do not ask their customers to take out such insurance in this way. This is good news for everyone on the estate and I hope that all the other house sale professionals will also give such an undertaking. In other parts of Suffolk there are churches that do have the right to claim the repair costs from local homeowners and there is information on how to find out who they are on this previous blog entry.

Rougham Airfield - Music Concerts

UPDATE:The rest of this entry was written before news was received about the cancellation of the Human Zoo concert.
More details at the Moreton Hall Directory.

At the time of writing, we have heard that Rougham Airfield is going to be holding a series of concerts on the 10th, 11th and 12th August. These events will go on until 2.30 am in the morning and are supposed to attract large numbers to listen to loud music...

Sources close to the organisers have advised me, that far from being a simple concert, these are in fact raves. This raises a number of issues:-

  1. Should such events take place so close to a large housing estate with many children?
  2. Is this sort of thing we want to encourage and will it become an annual event?
  3. A one night rave is one thing, but for three consecutive nights. Is this reasonable and fair?
  4. Is this a proper use of police resources and time given with all the other things they have to do?
  5. What sort of people is it going to attract and how can we be sure that when the concerts are over they will go home in an orderly manner. Surely there is some fear that joy riding at 3.00 – 4.00 am in the morning will take place following a wild party on the Rougham estate?

It is a point of contention whether Rougham Airfield and Rougham Tower can continue so close to the housing estate as it grows ever eastward. I am personally quite happy to see them there, but surely they should act responsibly and be good neighbours to the emerging community close by. I must ask them is holding such raves and concerts the best way of winning friends in what is an important community issue?

The Moreton Hall Directory has an article on the subject, including a response from the organisers regarding some of the concerns.
