Letter from the Minister - April 2009

This has been a very special Easter for Bury St Edmunds. The Queen came to give out Maundy money at a historic service on Maundy Thursday at the Cathedral. Then the crowds were out for the moving Good Friday Passion Plays. Finally all the churches were packed for the celebration of Easter. It is wonderful to have a Christian Monarch who has shown such dedicated service for so many years. The Queen, as she often says, has been inspired by the life death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and that faith in Him has enabled her to live an extraordinary life of her own.

Really that is the point of Easter. Jesus came to give us an abundant life to replace a sinful one, a life to be lived with the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit and then to give us an eternal life to be lived with him forever. But for so many of us, events happen, we enjoy them, but life quickly returns to normal.

However coming up soon are two opportunities for you so you won't miss out on what Jesus can give to you. It's a chance to join in and make a difference.

On Saturday 9th May, come to our Christian Aid sponsored Fun Run at 11.30am to 1.30pm. It marks the beginning of Christian Aid week, 10th-16th May, when we all get together to raise money for those in need around the world, and to get into shape ourselves.

We are so pleased that David Ruffley, our MP, will be running too and Sam Reid the sports coach will be helping us all to warm up.

You can walk, jog, push a buggy, round the course, up to ten laps, and here is a free barbecue for all who take part after. Why not get a sponsor form from church or download one from our website

Then on Sunday the 18th at 10.30am we will be opening the church for "Back to Church 2 - The cream tea". There will be a super service with a quiz, songs and the now world famous "Three Vicars sketch" followed by cream tea with cakes. Why not take the opportunity to find out what it is all about, and get connected to the new life Jesus wants you to have. Just like our Queen, here is a chance to be inspired by Jesus and make a difference to our world.

With every blessing,
Jonathan Ford.
